Property buying and home makeover shows!?

Since giving up work to look after my baby son I've been watching a lot of terrible daytime TV but these shows really are my most hated! I switch them over straight away!

Firstly, why show these programmes full of smug snooty middle class people spending £400,000 on a Victorian semi with a "perfect" dining room, in the daytime when only the unemployed and unemployable are watching, most of whom consider themselves lucky to get a 1 bed flat off the council???

Secondly is this some kind of conspiracy to make us all feel guilty that we can't afford £400,000 on a house and even if we had a dining room wouldn't use it for "dinner parties" - just seems we're returning to the middle class snobbery of yesteryear.

And as for the "selling houses" one - "ooh this house will never sell! There are some small weeds growing in the garden and your dog smells". Really? Well you bootfaced btich you have obviously never had children or lived in a "real" house have you! Silly cow!

  1. lol - to your last paragraph,

oh how the other half live hey, but i know what you mean.

    have a good day
  2. I quite agree.Makeover/property shows are just a way for the upper class snobs to show off.Let them try living in a council house on a basic income and see if they can decorate/furnish a house then....And what gives the presenters the right to put other peoples homes down just for entertainment..Some people spend years getting there homes nice just for some jumped up arsehole to put it down, just becasue they don't like a certain decor etc.........
  3. What can I say. Not all shows will satisfy everyone.

I like those shows to give me inspiration. Well at least the one channel I watch on cable has makeovers and remodeling from no cost to a lot of money.

I was finally able to move from my rented apartment to a condominium I now own after a decade of wanting to own my first property. And with the help of my parents I might add. Now that I have this, I can actually think about what I can fix to increase its value. That is where those shows come in handy....

If I did not get inspiration from them, I would probably not do much with the condo. However, I just finsihed redoing the ceiling , changing the carpet to ceramic tile and so on. Basically, giving it a facelift without having any experience. I just used the inspiration from the shows and seeing people doing simple designing to bring value to the home, reading up on books and watching videos online, and the support of my family to keep going.

So if you chose to do so, you can also use those shows to help you get inspired on projects around your home (Just not the shows about the half a million property....those are WAY out of range and too depressing!). I am not sure if you area has it but look for shows that can inspire you that are more within your financial reach.
  4. Hmm....seems a familiar question.
