How can I fix my verticle blinds?

I have standard verticle blinds in my patio doorwall and everytime I open and shut them, I have to manually adjust 4 or 5 separate vanes. Any suggestions to fix this problem?

  1. I dont know so dont ask me? See ya
  2. Sounds like you have some pretty cheap or old blinds. Vertical blinds aren't that expensive maybe you should just replace them. I've rented apartments that have had that problem before. They just get off the track. Probably a crappy piece of plastic somewhere up in there that has cracked off.
  3. Most standard vertical blind head rails have what is called "carriers" that hold the vanes and cause them to turn which can be replaced. Some of these carriers are very difficult to replace and some are very simple. The ones that are very difficult should not be repaired by the average homeowner. The repair can be very time consuming and frustrating. It pretty much involves disassembling the entire head rail and rebuilding it with new carriers that are very hard to match up.

The easy ones to repair have a carrier that is very simple to pop out and replace. They have what is called a stem and gear that can be purchased form the first link below for $1.50 each (www.fixmyblinds.com) and the instructions on how to replace it are located at the second link.

You also might be experiencing some overlap problems that can be resolved by remembering to make sure to open the vanes all the way before traversing them either way.
  4. new ones are like $20
