What are the cheapest window blinds that block out the sun?
I had previously purchased aluminum blinds that were supposedly room darkening. Unfortunately, as soon as the sun came out it went right through them and that kept me awake. I'm on a low budget, but I want to make sure that this time I get blinds that actually block out the sun. I plan on getting curtains also, but I still want blinds that will do the job on their own...please help.

- you could always line your curtains with dark trash bags, or some material that is thick and dark.
- try painting the inside of the blinds
- This may sound silly, but it works. It is not very ascetically pleasing, but it works. Aluminum foil. Tape it over your windows and nothing can get through. Of course, if you want to look out, you will need to tear it off. It is also less messy than black spray paint. (Less permanent too.)
- they make a roll down black out shade,. the old style pull down shades, use that with your mini blinds and the 2 should do the trick since it sounds as you are senitive to any light
- Best answer for a cheap, room-darkening solution is a black-out roller shade. Mount it OUTSIDE the window with a lot of extra coverage on the sides and top.
But the better look is blackout-out cellular shade. They have foil inside them to block the light and they look really nice.

- Go to HomeDepot.com and search for "Redi-Shade." They are $5.23 each.
- The cheapest ones i have found were at Wal-mart and It's called "Redi-Shade" -just make sure to get the room darkening one. I think it's like $5-6.00 per shade. They only come in one size, but you can cut it to fit, or use more than one if you have a large window.
You just peel off the paper and stick the shade to the top of your window frame and cut off any excess. They even come with little clips that you can keep them open with if you choose to let the light in during the day or something.
They are really like temporary shades, but the adhesive really sticks and i've used the same ones in three different apartments and it is still sticking with no problem. It really blocks out the light too
- The least expensive product you can buy that does a great job of darkening a room is a custom vinyl roller shade. Or even a vinyl backed fabric roller shade. The only thing you will find that does a better job is a honeycomb (AKA cellular shade) w/ mylar lining. It is pricier than the roller shade though.
