Is there a way to repair mini-blinds that have become stuck in the up position?

There is a gold-colored, u-shaped piece of metal (kind of like thick gauge wire for lack of a better description) that is inside the hole where the pull cord is located. It appears that this piece has become slightly bent out of shape. Can anyone offer suggestions on how to fix this? I really don't want to replace the blinds because otherwise they are in good shape.

   It would probably take too much time to fix and time = money.
   
   The piece of metal you are referring to is probably the piece of metal that holds the little round loose piece of metal from falling out.
