- The first thing to do is to choose a proper place to plant your tree. If you want to get a good yield the mango tree should be able to root properly. This will require that it is planted at least 5m or more from any obstruction such as a wall or the house. This is important if you do not want the roots to send fissures along your walls when the tree grows. Best time for pruning is just after a yield. The tree has not yet started flowering again. If you prune it then it should be less harmful in the extent of harm to the tree in the long run. This is because when a tree flowers there is an increase in amount of nutrients carried in the sap. There will therefore be less loss of valuable nutrients when the sap lost on pruning contains less of these.
